Corbion's biobased moisturizing ingredients harness the power of lactates to help optimize the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), nature's way of keeping skin protected and well-hydrated.

Our PURASAL® family of ingredients are based on lactates – which are important components of a healthy NMF – to help boost skin hydration, working with all skin types in both rinse-off- and leave-on product formulations.

These moisturizing ingredients are excellent humectants and play a key role in the skin's own natural moisturization mechanism. Corbion's nature-inspired approach is based on using high-quality, highly soluble salts of natural L-lactic acid produced by the fermentation of biobased carbohydrates.

The solutions in our PURASAL® portfolio can play a transformative role in any moisturizing personal care product. PURASAL® NH/COS helps create products that can restore very dry or damaged skin to a healthy, supple condition. PURASAL® MOISTXS offers clinically proven moisturization for the skin that lasts up to 24 hours, and it's perfect for leave-on applications like lotions and crèmes.

Our PURASAL® range is also well-suited to male grooming formulations such as post-shaving products. With more men taking on an advanced personal care regimen, manufacturers are seeing increased demand for light and quick-absorbing moisturizers. Our PURASAL® S/HQ 60 is a high-purity sodium salt of natural L-lactic acid that's an effective, non-tacky humectant for natural skin moisturization.

Baby-safe solutions

Heightened consumer awareness about product safety issues in general has driven an increase in demand for safe, healthy infant care products. Our biobased PURASAL® range offers a moisturization solution that's perfect for babies, as it naturally supports the skin's own moisturizing mechanism. For fragrance-free infant products, our PURAC® UltraPure ingredient makes a great addition, as it is completely odorless.

Added benefits for rinse-off applications

Humectants such as lactates are often used in rinse-off applications to keep the skin hydrated, but Corbion’s PURASAL® S/HQ 60 ingredient offers additional benefits for manufacturers. In bar soap, it increases the hardness of oil-based bars while reducing water loss and cracking, which facilitates stamping and release from molds. It can also be used in bath and shower products, as well as hair care formulations.
